The smart grid just got smarter.

Westar Energy needed to raise awareness around smart grid upgrades that were coming to the electrical grid in their service area. Our solution was to put a face and a name to the smart grid in a way that was unexpected and memorable. We wanted to inject tidbits of info about ways the grid was getting smarter but also wanted to make people smile. So we took the most iconic and ubiquitous part of the electrical grid - the part you stick stuff in - and brought it to life.

This was the first big project where I was the creative director on set. Was a lot of fun to block out and execute. The original idea came from a joke between myself and my copy partner and as soon as it was uttered we both started scribbling down script ideas.

Yes, we made radio spots too.

This is probably the most challenging medium there is to be smart, engaging, clear and also make people not change the channel instantly. Feel like these ads accomplished at least three out of four of those things.
